An International Summit on Advancing Veterinary Medical Care: Challenges and Strategies was organized at Chennai from 19-21 February 2009. Scientific papers on cutting edge healthcare technologies in small animal medicine such as 3-dimensional ultrasonography, doppler blood pressure measurement, hemodialysis, novel endoscopic investigating studies, and critical care techniques were presented. Contemporary veterinary care for wild animals that would support and advance wildlife conservation was also presented by leading experts. In addition, a new database on research studies in veterinary internal medicine was presented that would help participants to plan and strategize research in their respective institutions. Papers on current concept on equine and pack animal disease management were also presented. IUSSTF supported the participation of four lead speakers from the US, namely, Jeff Simmons (Salt Lake Veterinary Medical Association), Robert O Brien (University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign), Julie Byron (University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign) and Stephan Carey (Michigan State University)
