Frontiers of Science Symposium (FOS)
The Indo-US S&T Forum which is mandated to
nurture contacts between young and mid career scientists has initiated the
Indo-US Frontiers of Science (FOS) Symposium as its flagship program. The
symposia series is based on the model adopted by the US National Academy of
Science (NAS). IUSSTF has successfully organized the first Indo-US FOS at
Bangalore in Jan 2005 in partnership with NAS and it is planning to hold the
2nd Indo-US FOS from 18-20 Jan 2007 at the NAS, Beckham Centre, Irvine,
California.
This symposium series is intended to bring together outstanding young
scientists and researchers below the age of 45 from India and the US, not only
to discuss exciting advances and opportunities in their own fields, but also to
learn and discuss about research at the cutting edge of other disciplines,
while building new ties between future leaders of both nations scientific
enterprises. The identified speakers present their talks on contemporary
research topics to colleagues outside their field with a view to both conveying
and deriving cross-disciplinary information and insights through a format,
which allows informed one-to-one discussions amongst all the participants. It
is expected that the FOS will lead to cross fertilization of ideas across
disciplines and foster links between disparate young groups, who otherwise
would have not met.
